There are so many questions that I have after looking at the video of the Bakersfield, California child being hit in the face by a “man” while a camera rolled. The first and most heart wrenching question that comes to mind is how scared this baby must have been. If you can manage to watch it – you can tell in his panicked run through the cramped aisle that he knew what was going to happen – which means it has happened before.

Another thing that struck me was the female in the video, obviously pregnant, and just like the baby who was knocked to the floor, seemed like she had been there before. We do not know her story yet – but if she is not an accomplice – my bet is she too is a victim.

I hate that the child had to experience such cruelty but I can’t help but be grateful that Justin Whittington, the suspect in the video and the child’s alleged father, was dumb enough to do it in public – otherwise…

The store employees and owners deserve special shout-outs, they cared enough to look at their surveillance video and contact the police. They spoke up, something that seems easy to do but that takes a lot of courage, kudos to them.

If you or someone you know is dealing with child and/or domestic abuse say something, speak up.
